In 2016 Xergi delivered a 1.5 MWe biogas plant to Willen Biogas near London. Managing director Adrian Williams tells about the project process in a new video.
The owners of Willen Biogas were looking for a supplier with a lot of experience and dedication to the AD industry, and according to managing director Adrian Williams that is exactly what they got when they chose Xergi as supplier.
Located close to central London, Willen Biogas treats food waste from universities, supermarkets and restaurants in the area. Due to the site location, a number of restrictions had to be taken into account when planning the construction of the biogas plant.
“Xergi’s design team were very receptive to our requests for design. We had certain constraints on our planning, and they respected that. We first set out to produce a 1.2 MWe plant, but from discussions we had in the lead up to the project, 1.5 MWe seemed to be very much available, so a 1.5 MW engine was installed, and to Xergi’s credit that proved to be the right decision,” tells Adrian Williams who at the same time expresses great satisfaction with the support that Xergi has provided during the commissioning of the plant.

Scottish and Southern Energy, Barkip - UK
Xergi has constructed a biogas plant for one of the largest utility companies in the UK, Scottish and Southern Energy. The plant is situated in Barkip near Glasgow and converts organic waste into green energy and bio fertilizer. The plant is capable of handling 75,000 tonnes of waste per year.
Staples Vegetables - UK
The plant is situated at the main site of one of UK's leading vegetable producers, Staples Vegetables, based near Boston in Lincolnshire. They produce a large range of vegetables for the retail industry, which results in a large amount of surplus vegetables.
By investing in the biogas plant Staples Vegetables are now able to benefit from their surplus vegetables by using it as a resource feedstock for the plant that turns it into energy and fertiliser using state of the art technologies. As an additional feedstock maize silage is added to the plant as well.
Bånlev - Denmark
Bånlev a.m.b.a. is owned by a cooperative which consists of a group of farmers.
The plant is authorized to treat 155,000 tons of biomass annually. Approx. 135,000 tons of manure is supplied by the 35-40 associated farmers, plus an additional amount of 25,000 tons of industrial waste. The plant is able to treat different kinds of biomasses such as animal manure and waste - especially slaughterhouse and industrial waste, as well as fatty residual products and glycerine.
