Foulum Biogas plant is owned by the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Aarhus University.
In October 2007 the world's largest test plant was officially opened at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences in Foulum Denmark.

This turnkey biogas plant delivered by Xergi, consists of a demonstration plant with a 1,200 m³ biogas digester, and a test plant with two digesters of 10 m³ each and two digesters of 30 m³ each. The test plant will make Denmark a leader in developing biogas and manure separation technologies for utilization of energy and nutrients in farmyard manure and energy crops. The plant allows testing of new technologies and can run at all temperature levels making it possible to test process efficiency in relation to changes in temperature.
Tomorrow's Technology Xergi's Process Research Department is based in Agro Business Park close to the test plant. Xergi thus has direct access to a large scale test station which enables us to continually develop and improve the biological processes of anaerobic digestion
Even though present biogas technology is very efficient compared to most other types of energy utilization of biomass, it is possible to develop the biogas technology further. Therefore, it is vital for Xergi to have documented scientific tests of new and more effective technologies and methods.
