Xergi A/S is to build the world's largest biogas plant for demonstration and test purposes at Danmarks JordbrugsForskning (Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences) in Tjele, Denmark.

The delivery will consist of a demonstration plant with a 1,200 m³ biogas digester, and a test plant with two biogas digesters of 10 m³ and two biogas digesters of 30 m³.

The test plant will be equipped with facilities for testing of the biogas production and various pre-treatment systems.

The demonstration plant is to treat approx. 29,000 tons of farmyard manure and 2,000 tons of other biomass per year. With this amount of biomass the plant will have an annual output of 850,000 m³ methane gas. The gas is to be used as fuel in the existing cogeneration plant at Danmarks JordbrugsForskning.

The test plant is to be used by scientists, students and companies with relation to Danmarks JordbrugsForskning. The plant will thus enable documentation of both test results and testing of components.

The construction works are expected to start in the middle of May, and it is expected that the plant is ready for commissioning at the end of 2006.
